Seen through the narrow space between two houses, the bay appears as an opening at the end of a shaded street. Rough walls, an old lantern and the descending pavement hold the view within the passage, reducing the celebrated coastline to a modest glimpse of water.

The photograph returns Saint-Tropez to the scale of an inhabited town: a narrow street, a threshold and the sea close by.
