The Women collection brings together portraits in which presence forms the centre of the image. Stanev approaches each sitter with a quiet, attentive regard, allowing character to emerge through the interplay of gaze, posture and surrounding space. These moments are shaped by trust and concentration, turning the act of being seen into a shared and deliberate exchange.

Instead of building fixed narratives, the photographs leave room for nuance and internal movement. Light, gesture and the rhythm of stillness act as structural elements through which individuality emerges in a subtle, unforced way. The images avoid spectacle; they hold a measured intimacy that draws attention to the emotional and psychological dimensions of presence.

Within Stanev’s broader practice, the Women series reflects an ongoing exploration of portraiture — grounded in respect, clarity of observation and a commitment to the autonomy of the individuals depicted. The collection traces a spectrum of female presence that is neither idealised nor kept at a distance, but revealed through the depth with which the artist reads and understands character. Seen together, these photographs form a quiet and enduring study of human intensity.
