In corrida, movement has its own vocabulary. Each pass is shaped by position, timing and control, and the smallest change in rhythm can alter the exchange between matador and bull. At its best, the movement appears almost effortless, although it depends on precision developed through years of repetition.

Stanev has often been drawn to these fleeting configurations of body, fabric and animal — gestures that exist for only a fraction of a second before disappearing. The photograph holds one of those brief alignments in which technique, instinct and movement become almost impossible to separate.

The work was exhibited in Rojo – Trozos de Pasión in 2019.
