E·motion – La Calle, Spain

E-motion marks a new direction in the practice of Ivailo Stanev — a moment in which his photography begins to form its own distinct visual system. The name of the series is an authorial term, a play on emotion and motion, where the two become a single expression. Whether in black and white or muted colour, these images align more closely with contemporary drawing and painting than with traditional photography. Everyday scenes are transformed into new visual meanings, filtered through the artist’s internal rhythm.

E-motion is an ongoing conceptual series that explores movement as an emotional gesture. The collection brings together images created across different locations and projects, united by a focus on how a moment feels rather than how it appears. This is photography that comes alive through motion — where scenes dissolve into impressions, and form gives way to atmosphere.

In this series, places become impressions: beaches, cities, streets, and in-between spaces shift into softer, more internal landscapes. Lines loosen, subjects blur, and the frame moves away from description, allowing each image to hold its own emotional resonance.

E-motion evolves in parallel with Stanev’s broader practice — a thread of images that emerge when a scene slips out of clarity and into sensation. Each photograph retains only what carries emotional weight, distilling movement into presence.

Ivailo Stanev is a Spain-based photographer whose career spans over 25 years across fashion, documentary, and art photography.
