In the harbour of Saint-Tropez, the mast of a sailing boat rises directly in front of the bell tower of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, one of the town’s defining landmarks. Its crossbar momentarily gives the mast the form of a cross within the familiar geometry of the port.

Saint-Tropez bears the name of its patron saint, yet the photograph leaves this association open. The image emerges from the brief alignment of two elements closely tied to the town, brought together by the position of the camera.
