Corrida is an ongoing photographic study by Ivailo Stanev, tracing the ritual, rhythm, and interior atmosphere of contemporary tauromaquia. Seen through the lens of ritual rather than spectacle — a world built from gestures, pauses, and preparations, in moments that surround the arena as much as they inhabit it.

The series moves between interiors and sand, between silence and motion: an embroidered jacket resting on a chair; hands tightening fabric before the threshold; dust rising in a beam of light; figures dissolving into blurred rhythm. Here, atmosphere carries as much meaning as form.

At its center lies the human presence behind the role — a moment of inward focus in the narrow space where vulnerability meets discipline. These photographs observe the states that precede action, where posture, breath, and attention quietly assemble into ritual.

Seen with restraint and without sentiment or judgment, Corrida documents a world shaped by repetition, preparation, and the tension between identity, history, and gesture. It is a visual chronicle of a tradition understood through its quietest transitions.

Ivailo Stanev is a Valencia-based photographer whose career spans over 25 years across fashion, documentary, and art photography.

His work has been commissioned and published by leading international titles, including Esquire, Playboy, Maxim, FHM, and Harper’s Bazaar.
